Eternal Life

And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, some to shame and everlasting contempt. Those who are wise shall shine like the brightness of the firmament, and those who turn many to righteousness like the stars forever and ever.
Daniel 12:2-3
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.
John 10:28
Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father. And this is the promise that He has promised us, eternal life.
1 John 2:24-25
But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit , keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Jude 1:20-21
Eternal life! What does that mean to you? How does that impact your life today? Is it real, or is it just another fairy tale?
These and many other questions come to mind when we ponder the concept of eternal life. This is a difficult concept for us because everything we know here on earth has a beginning and an end. Immortality is usually left up to myths and fairy tales.
The Bible has many passages dealing with eternal life, four of which are shown above. I love Daniel 12:2-3. Those who are wise shall shine . . . like the stars forever and ever. This is better than naming a star -- this is being a star! Joy and brightness are often associated with eternal life for the saints of God.
John 10:28 helps us to understand that eternal life with Christ begins the moment one becomes a Christian. No one is able to snatch a true believer out of the hands of God. Remember those childhood days when the most comforting feeling was to hold hands with Mom or Dad; you knew that you were completely safe. That was only a picture of the safety net we have in Christ.
Accepting Christ as your Savior is not just a decision you make, but rather it is a complete internal change in your life. When Christ saves you the Holy Spirit comes to dwell within you (how amazing is that?). But, that's not all! You also abide in the Son and in the Father -- forever!
Why are Christians able to endure suffering, humiliation, disdain, scoffing, etc.? The Holy Spirit is living inside of them, comforting, encouraging, and instructing them in the midst of pain and suffering. This life is just a vapor compared to eternity in heaven with God; Christians always have their eyes looking to heaven, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
Go to Christ; He alone can grant you eternal life with God. |
