The Sacredness of the Bible

Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.
Deuteronomy 4:2
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.
Revelation 22:18-19
What a simple statement! It seems rather easy, right?
Then why do we have all of the denominations we have today; why is there so much confusion as to what the Bible says and what the Bible really means?
Unfortunately we have so much pride and arrogance that we really have a problem with someone telling us how we should live! Added to that, we often take great liberties in interpreting and understanding even simple Bible passages. Why is that?
We don't go very far into Genesis when we find the problem. Who was at the root of Adam and Eve's sin? Satan. Never forget that we are caught in the middle of a very fierce battle between God and Satan. Satan made a claim on Adam and Eve and will not be stopped until he has claimed every man, woman, and child who has ever lived.
Is there no hope for us? Yes; Christ came to this earth to die on the cross and pay for our sins. By accepting Him as our Savior and making Him the Lord of our life, we have outmaneuvered Satan.
Does Satan give up on us when we become Christians? Unfortunately, he never gives up while we are still alive on this earth. He was not able to prevent us from becoming a Christian, so now a new battle begins. He will do whatever he can to discourage us, and water down our testimony for the Lord so that we will not have an effect on the unsaved around us.
In the church, Satan has created quite a mess! How often do we see churches warring against other churches instead of carrying the wonderful Gospel of Christ to those around them?
What is the answer for you? Read your Bible, pray, go to a Bible believing church (yes, even as imperfect as it is), and surround yourself with other Christians. Don't worry about what you don't understand; instead, read the Bible and meditate on its simple truth. Don't add to it, and don't subtract from it; just take it at face value.
As a believer in Christ, the Holy Spirit will teach you the truths of the Bible and bring it alive into your heart and life. |
