Who is Jesus?
Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesarea Philippi , He asked his disciples, "Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God. "
And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven."
Matthew 16:13-17
Who is Jesus? It's a simple question, but very few people really know the correct answer!
In this passage, that is exactly the question that Jesus asked His disciples. Who am I?
In the days of Christ, look at the various answers that people gave to that question. Some thought He was John the Baptist returned from the dead, some thought he was Elijah, or Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.
Jesus looked at His disciples and said, "But who do you say that I am?"
That is the important question; it's just as important for us today as it was for Peter. "Who do YOU say that I am?" The time comes when everyone has to answer that question themselves; Christ is personal. Your answer counts; it counts for eternity! It doesn't matter what our friends say, what our parents say, or even what our enemies say! Who is Jesus? What do YOU say?
Peter knew the correct answer; do you? Peter said, "You are Christ, the Son of the living God!" Jesus blessed Peter for knowing the right answer, and then went on to tell him that the only way he could know the correct answer was by having it revealed to him by God.
Pray today that God would reveal the truth of who Jesus really is to you. Pray also for those around you, that God would reveal this truth to them as well remembering that the effectual fervent prayer of the righteous availeth much. |
